After the successful completion of the LearnX Award Winning So you want to be a councillor (SYWTBC) training course, VMP eLearning was again contracted by the Queensland Department of Local Government, Racing & Multicultural Affairs to produce an online induction eLearning course and reference tools for local members and councillors who had been elected during the March 2020 Queensland Local Government elections. Each module was created to cover a certain aspect of public life including how to manage community expectations, declaring conflicts of interests and dealing with agencies such as the Crime and Corruption Commission, the Office of the Independent Assessor and the Office of the Information Commissioner. The modules included animated scenarios, interactive activities and alternating voiceovers to keep the users engaged. The councillor induction eLearning course was developed as a ‘reference tool’ with no expiry date or limit on the amount of times users can go through the modules. This means that every Queensland councillor has a wealth of information at their fingertips to help them provide a better government to their communities.
