Our client, Prime Effect provides inspirational Health and Safety services to a wide range of industries. Led by ex NRL and State of Origin player Dave Shillington with a host of sports champions and qualified health and safety experts, Prime Effect is building a strong reputation for engaging and effective workshops. To extend the potential impact of the Prime Effect approach, we discussed the options for taking things online.

The new regulatory requirements under the Work Health and Safety Legislation (Qld), include an approved code of practice in relation to managing the risk of psychosocial health and safety hazards at work. When these were released as of 1st April 2023, the VMP eLearning and Prime Effect Team planned on creating a course for both employees and managers addressing this new requirement.

The idea was to raise awareness about health and safety, specifically mental health,  in the corporate world and provide support for people at risk of mental health issues as well as for managers who need to ensure that their staff are as healthy as possible. The aim was to present important information about mental health, especially in the corporate world, and to give practical tips on how to achieve improved mental health outcomes.

We initiated this project to address the new legislation around psychosocial responsibilities in the workplace but quickly found that the benefits it brings in resolving conflicts and teaching how to both give and receive feedback, far outweigh the advantage of just conforming to legal requirements. The documented improvements in sick leave and unplanned absences alone have made us all feel good about Be Buoyant while improvements in workplace health and safety as well as rostering issues have also given us reason to celebrate the course. It is delivering on our promise to make a difference in our client’s workplaces.

Be Buoyant consists of seven modules of self-paced learning with most users taking between 2 and 2.5 hours to complete the course. It coaches individuals and managers on what they can do to reduce both their own and others exposure to psychosocial health and safety hazards in their workplace.
